HVAC Help: Just Another Thing to Be Thankful For

HVAC Technicians Offer Help During the Thanksgiving Season

Ah, HVAC: heating, ventilation, and air conditioning. One cannot function without the other. When an HVAC system doesn’t get proper ventilation, homeowners can’t expect optimal heating or air conditioning. Alternatively, when the heater doesn’t work, odds are, the air conditioning and home’s ventilation won’t work, either.

Thankfully, there are heating services, furnace repair, and whole-home humidifier repairmen who specialize in HVAC systems. These specialists provide a wealth of services to keep homes’ HVAC systems up and running.

HVAC Units Do More Than Keep Homes Warm warm

A non-working heater does more than make a home chilly; it can also indicate many unseen dangers, such as:
  • A gas leak: If a heater doesn’t operate properly, this could signal a carbon monoxide leak. Within hours, a home may fill with an invisible, odorless gas. This can cause unexplained dizziness, confusion, and even death.
  • An electrical shortage: If the heater isn’t getting adequate power, its connective wires could be severed, frayed, or exposed. This poses a fire hazard.
  • Secondary health conditions: Ohioans know how brutal Dayton’s winters can be. Without proper heating, a family may experience respiratory issues, dry skin, and general malaise.

A defective heater can also cause astronomical utility bills. For instance, if a heater works but cannot maintain a steady temperature, it will never turn off. This can increase one’s power bill and cause above-average wear and tear on the appliance.

HVAC Units Do More Than Keep Houses Cool cold

For many, modern-day AC units maintain comfortable temperatures and regulate indoor air quality. However, these appliances also maintain a home’s integrity. Consider the following:

  • Air conditioning prevents mold: Mold loves damp, warm, and dark spaces. While the air conditioning unit isn’t a light fixture, it does keep the air dry and prevent uncomfortable temperatures. According to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), mold can develop anywhere from 24 to 48 hours in optimal conditions. A broken air conditioning unit could pave the way for these unfavorable growths.
  • Air conditioning units prevent “sick building” syndrome: No, of course, buildings don’t get sick. But surely, at one time or another, everyone has walked into a building and immediately felt…odd. Symptoms include headaches, sore throat, and congestion. The reason for this illness is poor ventilation. While not visible, air is constantly moving inside a home. Without a functioning air conditioning unit, the air grows stagnant, creating an undesirable atmosphere.

HVAC Systems Promote Good Indoor Air Quality

Imagine two families. Both families smoke, have pets, and burn incense. One family, however, has a less-than-ideal air conditioning unit. Guess which home has poorer air quality? The one without the functioning HVAC unit. HVAC units rely on filters to purify the air. Without these filters, a home can get unbreathable – fast.

Signs of poor air quality include:

  • Hot and cold spots
  • Dust build-up
  • Mold or mildew
  • Humidity or dry air
  • Respiratory issues
  • Odors

Residents may even have trouble sleeping in poorly-ventilated homes.
